Sale price£40.00 GBP

Preowned - Very Good (7/10)

Description

A finely detailed 1:72 scale diecast model replicating a versatile and rugged British heavy fighter. This ready-made model by IXO replicates the Bristol Beaufighter Mk X assigned to the RCAF Coastal Command No. 404 Squadron, operating out of RAF Wick, England, in 1944. Designed to counter the growing threat of the Luftwaffe, the British Bristol Beaufighter—popularly known as the "Beau"—first took flight as a prototype on July 17, 1939. Built as a company-funded long-range fighter, it utilized major components in common with the earlier Bristol Beaufort torpedo-bomber. The aircraft featured two-speed supercharged radial engines mounted well ahead of the wing leading edges, with the cockpit uniquely positioned in its snub nose to give the pilot an excellent forward view. Capable of adapting to diverse operational demands, its roles expanded from a premier nightfighter into a long-range fighter, anti-shipping aircraft, torpedo plane, ground-attack tactical bomber, and cannon rocket-firing fighter. By September 1945, a total of 5,928 Beaufighters were built in a variety of models, including 364 manufactured in Australia, with many continuing in front-line service through the end of the 1950s.

Featured in IXO's affordable "Junior 1:72" range, this diecast model features an intelligent mix of diecast metal and plastic construction. The airframe is carefully engineered with realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels, and authentic surface details across the fuselage and wings. The snub-nosed configuration features an integrated cockpit canopy alongside a rear cupola positioned to house the navigator, wireless operator, and rear gunner positions. Display versatility is enhanced by interchangeable extended and retracted landing gear parts, allowing collectors to configure the heavy fighter for ground display or flight display. Complete with a designated presentation display stand to elevate the aircraft in an in-flight posture, this historic warbird model makes an excellent addition to any World War II collection.
