About The Collectables Vault

Who I Am

Jay Sawyer, founder of The Collectables Vault

Hi, I’m Jay, the founder and the only person behind The Collectables Vault. My interest in diecast aircraft and scale models began as a collector, searching for discontinued releases, comparing different manufacturers and learning what separates a well-preserved model from one with hidden faults.

That personal interest gradually developed into a specialist UK-based business. I now help other collectors find models from brands such as Corgi Aviation Archive, Hobby Master, Century Wings and other established diecast manufacturers.

Because I run the business myself, every enquiry, inspection, photograph, condition report and parcel is handled directly by me.

What I Do

The Collectables Vault specialises in new, pre-owned, retired and difficult-to-find diecast aircraft and scale models. Stock ranges from widely collected releases to unusual models that may not appear for sale very often.

Each item is individually inspected before it is listed. I check the model, accessories, stand, paperwork and packaging, then photograph the actual item being sold rather than relying on generic catalogue images.

I also record noticeable imperfections in the condition description, including paint wear, repairs, missing parts, packaging damage or signs of previous display. This allows collectors to make an informed decision before ordering.

Alongside the shop, I maintain a sold archive and publish collector guides covering model care, condition grading, common faults, scale sizes, manufacturers and the history behind selected releases.

Experience & Qualifications

My knowledge comes from first-hand experience collecting, sourcing, inspecting, handling and selling diecast models. I have worked with models in a wide range of conditions, from untouched examples to items affected by paint wear, damaged components, previous repairs, zinc rot, missing accessories and age-related packaging deterioration.

This hands-on experience has taught me where faults commonly appear, how easily delicate parts can be damaged and which details collectors usually want confirmed before making a purchase.

I am also qualified in international business, giving me a strong understanding of international trade, overseas customers and the practical considerations involved in selling and shipping collectable items around the world.

Before establishing The Collectables Vault, I developed a strong background in customer relations and customer journeys. That experience continues to shape how I run the business, from clear product information and helpful communication to secure delivery and after-sales support.

I understand that buying a collectable model is about more than completing a transaction. Customers need to feel informed and confident at every stage, particularly when purchasing a rare or valuable item from another country.

I also understand the importance of model codes, scale, aircraft markings, production variations, certificates and original accessories. These details can significantly affect the identity, completeness and desirability of a model.

I do not describe every item as perfect. My role is to assess each model carefully, explain its condition honestly and provide clear photographs so that customers know exactly what they are buying.

Built Around Transparency

The Collectables Vault is built around accurate descriptions, original photographs and straightforward communication. My aim is for the model you receive to match the listing, without hidden flaws or unwelcome surprises.

Every order is packed carefully with the needs of collectable models in mind, and I am available to answer questions before or after a purchase. The same level of attention is applied whether you are buying an affordable model or adding a rare centrepiece to an established collection.

Thank you for visiting The Collectables Vault. I am proud to support fellow collectors and help preserve the models, stories and history that make this hobby so rewarding.
