This 1:48 scale diecast model represents Supermarine Spitfire Mk IIa P7856 “VZ-E,” flown by Sergeant E.N. Macdonnell of 412 “Falcon” Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force. The squadron, formed overseas in 1941 as part of 12 Group’s Digby Wing, began operations in August of that year.

 

On October 31, 1941, Sgt. Macdonnell scored the squadron’s first aerial victory by downing a Bf 109. He was promoted to Pilot Officer shortly after and transferred to 124 Squadron. On April 24, 1942, while flying Spitfire Vb W3436, Macdonnell failed to return from a mission. Neither he nor his aircraft were ever recovered. He was just 20 years old.

 

Diecast construction with authentic details. Model comes pre-assembled with accessories and ready to display.

The model is in good condition overall, with a minor area of yellow paint loss on the front edge of the wing. There are also some dark patches on the underside and a couple of whitish areas on the topside wing.


The box is in good condition for age.
