Description
A beautifully crafted 1:48 scale diecast model replicating a dedicated late-war photographic reconnaissance platform. This collectible by Hobby Master (HA7601) represents the Supermarine Spitfire PR.Mk XIX serving with RAF No.541 Squadron out of RAF Benson in Oxfordshire, England. Formed in October 1942, No.541 Squadron utilized the specialized PR XIX variant to conduct critical high-altitude reconnaissance missions over mainland Europe until the end of World War II. By late 1944, this specific aircraft wore its June 6th D-Day invasion identification stripes painted on the fuselage only. Although the squadron briefly disbanded in October 1946, it reformed in November 1947 and continued utilizing the PR XIX for photographic reconnaissance and survey assignments until December 1950, when the type was officially replaced by jet-powered Meteors. Originally designed by R.J. Mitchell to meet a British Air Ministry specification, the Spitfire first flew on March 5, 1936, evolving across 40 major variants to become an unrivaled symbol of wartime victory built in greater numbers than any other British aircraft of its time.
Part of Hobby Master's Air Power Series, this 1:48 scale late-model Spitfire is engineered as a top-quality, highly authentic replica. The airframe is fitted with a standard Malcolm hood canopy that is fully removable, providing a completely clear view of the interior pilot seat and a detailed instrument panel complete with pad-printed gauges. Key engineering highlights feature an all-metal five-bladed propeller assembly that spins freely, alongside fully functional, movable rudder and elevator control surfaces. The near-solid metal wing structure is designed with hinged metal main landing gear components featuring integrated metal gear doors, complemented by detailed under-wing radiator ducts that clearly showcase internal core details from both the front and the back.
