Description

A highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast representation of McDonnell F-101B Voodoo 58-0275 of the United States Air Force 148th Fighter Group, Minnesota Air National Guard. Hobby Master HA3706 depicts the aircraft at Duluth International Airport during the 1970s, wearing the distinctive markings associated with the unit's Cold War air defence role.

Developed from the McDonnell XF-88, the F-101 was originally conceived as a long-range escort fighter before evolving into several specialised versions. The two-seat F-101B became an all-weather interceptor for Air Defense Command, combining powerful twin Pratt & Whitney J57 engines with radar-guided interception capability and an internal rotating weapons bay. The variant entered operational service in 1959 and became an important part of North American air defence.

The Minnesota Air National Guard's Duluth unit was redesignated as the 148th Fighter Group in 1960. After operating the F-102 Delta Dagger, it converted to the F-101 Voodoo in 1971 and retained the type until 1976. The unit then became the 148th Tactical Reconnaissance Group and transitioned to the RF-4C Phantom II, marking the end of its Voodoo era.

This release represents serial 58-0275, displayed as 80275, during the 148th Fighter Group's period of Voodoo operations from Duluth. Its combination of Minnesota ANG markings, imposing twin-engine profile and comparatively short service period makes it a distinctive subject among United States Air Force interceptor models.

Produced as part of Hobby Master's Air Power Series and limited to 500 pieces, the model features diecast metal construction with detailed plastic components, a finely represented two-seat cockpit, opening canopy, rotating weapons bay, optional undercarriage and a presentation display stand. It is a substantial and increasingly collectable release for enthusiasts of Cold War aircraft and Air National Guard history.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
