Condition
This 1:72 diecast model of the McDonnell RF-4C Phantom II represents the reconnaissance aircraft flown by the 106th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron of the Alabama Air National Guard. In February 1971, the 106th became the first ANG squadron to receive the RF-4C, replacing the aging RF-84F Thunderflash. These aircraft remained in service for nearly two decades, playing a key role in American air operations.
In 1990, six RF-4Cs equipped with LOROP (Long Range Oblique Photography) systems were deployed to Bahrain as part of Operation Desert Shield. The 106th conducted cross-border reconnaissance missions, collecting crucial intelligence on Iraqi force movements and helping locate mobile Scud missile launchers. Their efforts were vital to the coalition's situational awareness prior to the Gulf War. The unit was rotated out in December 1990, replaced by a squadron from the Nevada Air National Guard.
This model comes prebuilt and includes display accessories and a stand, making it a must-have for collectors of Cold War and Gulf War-era U.S. military aviation.
