The first two of thirty three F-35I Adir ("Mighty One" in Hebrew) ordered by Israel arrived on December 12, 2016 with the option to purchase seventeen more. The Israeli Air Force has two operational F-35 Squadrons, 116th "Lions of the South" and the 140th "Golden Eagles". Both squadrons are based at the Nevatim AB in the Negev Desert. Aircraft #909 is currently assigned to the 116th Sqn.
