Description
A striking and highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast representation of Lockheed F-16C Fighting Falcon 87-0332, operated by the Alabama Air National Guard's 100th Fighter Squadron, 187th Fighter Wing, from Dannelly Field during 2021. Released within the Hobby Master Air Power Series, HA38011 reproduces the aircraft with its vivid red tail commemorating the historic Tuskegee Airmen and their famous “Red Tail” heritage.
The modern 100th Fighter Squadron was established within the Alabama Air National Guard through the redesignation of the former 160th Fighter Squadron during 2007. The change restored the identity of one of the fighter squadrons associated with the wartime 332nd Fighter Group and the celebrated Tuskegee Airmen.
The Tuskegee Airmen became one of the most important formations in American military aviation history. Flying aircraft including the P-39 Airacobra, P-47 Thunderbolt and P-51 Mustang, the pilots of the 332nd Fighter Group proved their capabilities in combat while confronting racial discrimination within the United States military.
The red-painted tails used on the 332nd Fighter Group's wartime aircraft became their most famous visual identifier. The Alabama Air National Guard retained this heritage on selected modern aircraft, with the bright red fin of F-16C 87-0332 providing a direct visual link between the modern 100th Fighter Squadron and its historic predecessor.
HA38011 represents 87-0332 in its 2021 appearance, combining the F-16's dark grey operational finish with the dramatic red vertical tail. The markings include the prominent AL state code, 87-0332 serial presentation, USAF national markings and unit details associated with the 100th Fighter Squadron and 187th Fighter Wing.
The F-16 Fighting Falcon was originally developed by General Dynamics as a lightweight multirole fighter and first flew during 1974. Its blended wing and fuselage, relaxed-stability flight-control system, powerful engine and excellent cockpit visibility created an exceptionally agile aircraft which became one of the most successful Western combat aircraft designs.
The F-16C introduced an improved cockpit, avionics and radar together with expanded weapons capability. Block 30 aircraft received increased engine performance and other refinements, allowing the type to undertake air-to-air, precision strike and multirole missions.
Hobby Master's 1:72 F-16 tooling combines diecast metal and finely moulded components to recreate the aircraft's slender profile and complex surface details. Features include an opening canopy, detailed cockpit instrumentation, pilot figure, configurable landing gear, external fuel tanks, weapons and the original Hobby Master display stand.
