Description

A battle-proven tank buster from an elite NATO frontline squad. This highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast model by Hobby Master (HA1307) replicates the Fairchild A-10A Thunderbolt II (#81-0962), operating with the 81st Fighter Squadron ("Panthers"), 52nd Fighter Wing out of Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. As a core component of the largest fighter operation in Germany, the 81st FS deployed these rugged attack jets in critical support of NATO operations in Kosovo, flying a staggering 1,181 combat sorties over 4,705 flight hours. Renowned for their extreme low-altitude maneuverability and legendary survivability, the Panthers' exceptional performance earned them the prestigious 1997 Commander in Chief Trophy as the best fighter squadron in USAFE (US Air Forces Europe). This model captures the tactical grey scheme with "SP" tail codes perfectly, representing a premier era of European theater close air support.

Ideal for curators of modern tactical strike history and elite USAF aircraft collections, this Air Power Series release serves as a definitive historical artifact. The 1:72 scale model is engineered with premium precision, featuring clean recessed panel lines and a hinged canopy that opens to expose beautifully recreated front and side instrument panels, a control stick, and a pilot's seat. Key technical details include a slightly offset 30mm GAU-8 Avenger gatling-gun barrel with authentic cooling vents, a Pave Penny laser-tracking pod below the cockpit, several ventral-mounted antennas, and prominent high fuselage-mounted turbofan engine nacelles with visible fan blades. Complete with solid metal wings featuring cambered control surfaces, realistic main gear nacelles, and a full set of removable under-wing mounted ordnance for multiple configuration options, this premium model delivers a commanding presence on its display stand.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
