Description
A distinctive and highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast representation of a United States Navy McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II operated by VF-102 “Diamondbacks” aboard USS Independence during 1976. Released as part of the Hobby Master Air Power Series, HA19006 depicts BuNo. 155510 carrying the prominent tactical marking “AG100” as the squadron’s colourful Carrier Air Group aircraft.
VF-102 developed a long association with the Phantom II and used the powerful twin-engine fighter for fleet defence, interception and strike-support duties. This aircraft is reproduced in the classic high-visibility US Navy finish, combining light grey upper surfaces with white undersides, large NAVY lettering, red diamond markings and the squadron’s dramatic red and white Diamondbacks tail artwork.
BuNo. 155510 was delivered to VF-102 during 1972 and served aboard USS Independence before later transferring to VF-103 “Jolly Rogers”. It was subsequently converted to F-4S standard during the 1980s, continuing its operational career before being lost in a training accident in 1986.
Developed as a fleet defence fighter, the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II first flew in 1958. Its powerful twin engines, two-person cockpit and ability to carry a wide range of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons made it exceptionally versatile. The Phantom served extensively with the United States Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force, as well as numerous international operators.
This Hobby Master release is particularly appealing to collectors of United States Navy aviation, carrier-based aircraft and colourful squadron command schemes. The model features extensive diecast construction, separately positionable front and rear canopies, detailed cockpit instrumentation and a comprehensive selection of removable external stores. It is supplied with removable landing gear and the original Hobby Master presentation display stand.
