A visually striking and highly detailed 1:48 scale diecast representation of the Albatros D.V flown by German fighter ace Otto Kissenberth during the First World War. Released as part of the Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series, AA37811 depicts aircraft D2263/17 of Luftstreitkräfte Jasta 23 while operating over the Western Front during 1917.
Otto Kissenberth served as a fighter pilot and later commanded Royal Bavarian Jasta 23. Known for his distinctive personal aircraft markings, he became one of the more recognisable German fighter pilots of the period and achieved 20 confirmed aerial victories.
Kissenberth's aircraft carried an imposing predominantly black fuselage combined with multicoloured lozenge camouflage across the wings. Large black and white German national crosses were applied over the wing surfaces, while a prominent white fuselage band and personal emblem provided additional identification.
The model recreates the complicated printed camouflage pattern and simulated plywood construction associated with the Albatros fighter family. The contrast between the dark fuselage and brightly patterned wings makes this one of the most visually distinctive Albatros D.V releases within the Corgi range.
Designed by Robert Thelen, the Albatros D.V was introduced as a refined development of the successful Albatros fighter series. Its streamlined plywood-covered fuselage provided strength and aerodynamic efficiency, while its Mercedes inline engine delivered strong performance for the period.
Limited to 1,300 pieces worldwide, this substantial release features simulated plywood fuselage panels, fabric-textured wing surfaces and fine structural bracing wires. Additional detailing includes a pilot figure, twin LMG 08/15 machine guns, engine exhaust stacks, a rotating propeller, rolling rubber tyres and the original Corgi Aviation Archive presentation stand.
