Description
A visually striking and highly detailed 1:48 scale diecast representation of the Albatros D.V flown by German fighter ace Friedrich Ritter von Roth during the First World War. Released as part of the Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series, AA37802 depicts a Luftstreitkräfte Jasta 23B aircraft in its distinctive blue and green lozenge-style camouflage from early 1918.
Friedrich Ritter von Roth originally served with an artillery regiment before transferring to the German Air Service after recovering from wounds sustained during the war. His flying career was temporarily interrupted by a training accident, but he later returned to operational service and began claiming aerial victories during January 1918.
Von Roth became particularly successful against enemy observation balloons, which were heavily defended and extremely dangerous targets. By the end of the First World War, he had achieved 28 confirmed victories, including 20 observation balloons, making him Germany's highest-scoring balloon specialist. His operational record earned him the nickname “the Balloon Buster”.
The model recreates the aircraft's distinctive finish, combining a predominantly white fuselage with intricate blue, green and black camouflage across the wings and tail surfaces. Large black and white national crosses appear prominently on the wings, fuselage and tail, while the brightly coloured propeller and detailed engine area add further visual interest.
Designed by Robert Thelen, the Albatros D.V was introduced as a refined development of the successful Albatros fighter series. Its streamlined plywood-covered fuselage gave the aircraft a distinctive appearance, while its powerful Mercedes inline engine provided strong performance. Although the sesquiplane wing arrangement suffered from structural limitations, the Albatros D.V remained an important German frontline fighter during 1917 and 1918.
Limited to 3,940 pieces worldwide, this substantial 1:48 scale release is particularly appealing to collectors of First World War aviation and German fighter aircraft. The model features simulated plywood fuselage panels, fabric-covered wing surfaces, fine structural bracing wires and a detailed cockpit with pilot figure. Further detailing includes twin LMG 08/15 machine guns, separately rendered exhaust stacks, engine cooling components, a rotating propeller, rolling rubber tyres and the original Corgi Aviation Archive presentation stand.

Please note - The model can be quite difficult to remove from the plastic tray due to the snug fit. The safest method is to first remove the additional plastic guard from underneath the black tray, allowing the tray to flex more easily. Then, gently flex one side of the tray away from the aircraft until the model can be carefully eased out. Avoid forcing or pulling the model directly, as other removal methods may risk damaging the aircraft.
