Description
The "Whistling Death" in Kiwi service. This detailed 1:48 scale diecast model by Hobby Master (HA8209) replicates the Vought F4U Corsair NZ5485 "Kohimarama IX," serving with No.23 "Ghost" Squadron of the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) at Emirau, St. Matthias Islands, in August 1945. Originally shipped from the USA in late 1944, this aircraft was assembled at Espiritu Santo and named after an Auckland suburb. It represents the vital contribution of Kiwi pilots to the Allied bypass and isolation strategies in the South Pacific. Finished in a deep Gloss Sea Blue with distinctive RNZAF roundels and white tactical codes, it captures the aggressive lines of the iconic inverted gull-wing fighter.
