Description
A substantial and highly detailed 1:48 scale diecast representation of a Griffon-powered Supermarine Spitfire Mk XIV operated by RAF No. 610 Squadron during the campaign against the V-1 flying bomb. Released as part of the Hobby Master Air Power Series, HA7102 depicts an aircraft associated with Squadron Leader Richard Newbery at RAF West Malling during 1944.
No. 610 “County of Chester” Squadron became one of the first RAF units to receive the powerful Spitfire Mk XIV. The aircraft's exceptional speed and climbing performance made it especially valuable when the first V-1 flying bombs began crossing the English coast during the summer of 1944.
Richard Newbery commanded No. 610 Squadron during this demanding period. The unit's pilots undertook rapid interception sorties, attempting to locate and destroy the small pilotless weapons before they reached heavily populated areas of southern England.
The Spitfire Mk XIV combined the familiar Spitfire airframe with the powerful Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, a five-bladed propeller and revised tail surfaces. These changes produced a significant improvement in speed, climb and high-altitude performance over earlier Merlin-powered variants.
The model recreates the aircraft in RAF green and grey camouflage with contrasting undersides, prominent national roundels and the individual code “DW-D”. Its large five-bladed propeller, pointed rudder and detailed cockpit distinguish it as one of the later wartime Spitfire variants.
Limited to 1,800 pieces worldwide, this impressive Hobby Master release features extensive diecast construction, a detailed cockpit beneath a removable clear canopy, movable rudder and elevators and a freely rotating five-bladed metal propeller. It is supplied with removable landing gear and the original Hobby Master presentation display stand.

The model remains an attractive display example but has several visible cosmetic imperfections, including localised paint bubbling, paint loss, blemishes and light handling wear. These models are increasingly difficult to find in genuinely mint condition unless they have remained sealed, although even sealed examples are not guaranteed to be free from manufacturing defects or humidity-related deterioration that may develop over time. Please inspect all 31 photographs carefully before purchasing.
The noted condition points include:
- Paint bubbling to the inner wing.
- A mark to the top of the engine cover.
- A small area of paint loss to the yellow-painted leading edge of one wing.
- Darker blemished areas and light wear to the underside.
- Additional blemish marks visible across the topside of the wings.
Despite these imperfections, the model remains an attractive example and displays very well. It comes complete and with no breakages.
Box condition - Good (6/10)
- Noticeable wear to the outside eedges and corners, two taped up rips are present on the internal display cover along with a crease at the bottom right.
