Hobby Master 1:72 F-14A Tomcat, "MIG-23 Killer" 1989, HA5207

Sale price£180.00 GBP

Description

This 1:72 diecast model of Grumman F-14A Tomcat BuNo 159610 (AC207) commemorates its role in the 1989 Gulf of Sidra incident, one of the final Cold War aerial engagements. Assigned to VF-32 "Swordsmen" aboard the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67), this Tomcat—callsign AC207—was part of a two-ship flight that intercepted two Libyan MiG-23s on January 4, 1989.

Unlike previous encounters, the Libyan jets continued their approach instead of retreating. AC202 and AC207 engaged using AIM-7 Sparrow missiles. AC207 scored a direct hit, downing one MiG, while AC202 followed up to destroy the second after an initial miss. Both Libyan pilots ejected safely. This engagement reaffirmed the Tomcat’s dominance in air superiority roles. F-14A BuNo 159610 was later preserved and is now on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, repainted as VF-31 NK105.

This model comes prebuilt and includes display accessories and a stand.
