This 1:72 diecast model of Spitfire PR XIX PS915 honours the remarkable post-war career of the high-altitude reconnaissance variant of the legendary fighter. Entering service in June 1945 with 541 Squadron, PS915 later joined the Photographic Reconnaissance Development Unit for camera testing before being retired. In 1987, she was restored to flying condition for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, fitted with a Griffon engine from an Avro Shackleton.
Today, she wears the markings of another PR XIX, PS888 of 81 Squadron—an aircraft that flew the final operational Spitfire mission for the RAF. On 1 April 1954, during Operation Firedog in the Malayan Emergency, PS888 flew a photo-recon sortie over the jungle in Johore. To mark the historic flight, ground crew painted “The Last!” on the port nose, a fitting tribute to the Spitfire’s long and storied service life.
This model comes prebuilt and includes display accessories and a stand.
