This 1:72 diecast model of Bristol Blenheim Mk.I L6670, flown by Squadron Leader J. Gordon-Finlayson ("The Bish") of 211 Squadron, represents a key aircraft from the early Middle East and Greek campaigns of WWII. After deploying to the Middle East in April 1938, 211 Squadron began operations in June 1940 against Italian forces in Libya. In November, the squadron was diverted to Greece to assist following the Italian invasion.
Initially flying Blenheim L8511, “The Bish” and his crew were forced to make an emergency landing after suffering heavy damage during a mission—their disappearance led to them being reported missing, though they were later found marooned on an island and safely returned after a dramatic journey. For his leadership and bravery, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Soon after, he resumed flying in Blenheim L6670, transferred from 84 Squadron, and continued operations in harsh winter conditions and rugged terrain, including a daring raid on Valona harbour on December 2, 1940. His continued gallantry earned him the Distinguished Service Order in March 1941, along with promotion to Wing Commander.
This model comes prebuilt and includes display accessories and a stand, making it a compelling piece for collectors interested in early RAF operations and heroic individual stories from the Mediterranean theatre.
