Description
A specialized, clipped-wing carrier striker from the assault on the Tirpitz. This highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast model by Corgi (AA33015) replicates the Vought F4U Corsair operating with the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm (RNFAA), No.1842 Naval Air Squadron, embarked on HMS Formidable during Operation Goodwood in August 1944. Tasked with suppressing heavily defended German flak positions in a Norwegian fjord, No.1842 Squadron's Corsairs provided critical cover during a series of intense attacks aimed at neutralizing the formidable German battleship Tirpitz. Royal Navy Corsairs were uniquely modified for British operations with 41cm clipped wing-tips, an engineering adaptation necessary to enable below-deck storage within the smaller confines of British aircraft carriers compared to their American counterparts.
Ideal for curators of Fleet Air Arm history and specialized WWII maritime aviation, this Aviation Archive Collector Series release serves as a definitive historical artifact. The 1:72 scale model is engineered with premium precision, featuring a solid diecast construction with authentic oil cooler vents, crisp machine gun ports on the leading edges of its iconic inverted gull wings, and a pair of removable external fuel tanks.
