Preowned - Good (6/10)
Out of stock
Description

A high-visibility legend of the Vietnam and Cold War era. This massive 1:48 scale diecast model by Armour Collection (Art. 8004) represents the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II in the iconic markings of the U.S. Navy’s VF-111 "Sundowners." Renowned for their striking shark-mouth nose art and the "setting sun" tail design, the Sundowners were a premier fighter squadron that demonstrated the versatility and raw power of the F-4 Phantom across decades of carrier-borne service. This "heavy metal" release is a standout for its substantial weight and impressive scale, capturing the rugged, twin-engine profile of the world’s most famous multi-role interceptor.

This original Armour Collection release is highly sought after for its robust metal construction and the historical accuracy of its "high-vis" gull grey and white scheme. The model perfectly illustrates the Phantom's aggressive stance, featuring detailed cockpits, distinctive bent-up wingtips, and the heavy-duty landing gear required for carrier operations. As a 1:48 scale piece, it serves as a commanding centerpiece for any naval aviation collection, celebrating the legacy of the "Phabulous Phantom."

Condition

Model Condition - Good (6/10)

This is a highly sought-after and rare model variant. While it remains structurally sound, it serves as a prime candidate for restoration or a custom repaint to return it to its former glory. While the airframe is intact, the majority of the wear is purely cosmetic. Please note the following specific condition details:

  • Paint & Finish: Surfaces of the wings show patches of discoloration. There is also paint loss on the back of the tail's horizontal stabilizer. Some of the original glue on the underside has yellowed over time.

  • Decals: The inner star of one wing decal has paint loss.

  • Cockpit/Canopy: The plastic canopy pins have broken off and remain lodged within the airframe.

  • Note to Buyers: Our photo gallery focuses specifically on these defects rather than aesthetic shots to ensure full transparency regarding this model's condition.

Box condition - Excellent (8/10)

  • Overall Grade: Excellent for its age.

  • Details: Displays light shelf wear, but remains structurally sound and visually sharp.

Photographed under studio lighting to highlight even the smallest imperfections. Buy with confidence, what you see is exactly what you get.

Any imperfections are shown in the images and description. Refer to the grading tab for more details. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
