Description
A magnificent 1:48 scale diecast replication of a legendary D-Day escort fighter flown by a premier American triple ace. This premium model by Hobby Master (HA8503B) replicates the North American P-51B Mustang (#43-24823), famously named "Old Crow" and piloted by Captain C.E. "Bud" Anderson of the 363rd FS, 357th FG out of RAF Leiston, England. On June 6, 1944 (D-Day), while escorting B-17 bombers on a critical mission near Leipzig, Germany, Anderson's squadron was engaged by eight German Fw-190s. Reacting swiftly, Capt. Anderson unleashed a long-range volley that eliminated the enemy leader, forced a bailout, and then closed in to set a second Fw-190 ablaze. He secured a spectacular third victory that same day when a final Fw-190 flew directly in front of his line of fire. By the conclusion of World War II, Bud Anderson was credited with 16.25 aerial victories, cementing his legacy as an elite triple ace.
Designed originally to meet a British RAF requirement for a versatile fighter-bomber and reconnaissance aircraft, the P-51 Mustang first took flight on October 26, 1940. Testing the airframe with the legendary Rolls-Royce Merlin engine unlocked tremendous performance gains, transforming the Mustang into the definitive long-range bomber escort of the war and prompting the Truman Senate War Investigating Committee to label it "the most aerodynamically perfect pursuit plane in existence." Part of Hobby Master's Air Power Series, this large 1:48 scale diecast model accurately captures the P-51B's distinct high-back profile, complete with full June 1944 D-Day invasion stripes, authentic "Old Crow" nose art, a clear canopy housing a detailed pilot figure, and a premium display stand.
