Description
A rare, hand-signed tribute to a legendary Marine Corps fighter ace. This highly collectible 1:48 scale diecast model by Hobby Master (HA8212A) replicates the Vought F4U Corsair "White 183," flown by 1st Lt. Dean Caswell of USMC squadron VMF-221 "Fighting Falcons," operating from the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill during the ferocious Battle of Okinawa. This "Signature Edition" release is strictly limited to just 500 pieces worldwide and includes a display base nameplate personally hand-signed by Caswell. On April 28, 1945, Caswell led a 6-aircraft flight into a massive formation of roughly 30 Japanese planes trying to disrupt the Okinawa landings; he personally shot down 3 enemies and claimed 1 probable, successfully routing the attack. Caswell finished World War II as an ace with 7 confirmed victories before going on to serve two tours in both Korea and Vietnam.
Ideal for curators of Pacific Theatre operations and elite Marine Corps aviation history, this Air Power Series release serves as a definitive historical artifact of the final air campaigns of World War II. The large 1:48 scale model is engineered for exceptional accuracy, featuring a Gloss Sea Blue finish with white geometric carrier identification markings, a detailed cockpit with an opening canopy, optional landing gear positions, and positional folding wings for flight or carrier deck configuration. This premium diecast metal model offers an unmatched display presence for collectors prioritizing autographed provenance and legendary combat histories, making it a premier acquisition for any gallery dedicated to pioneer aerospace engineering and the VMF-221 legacy.
