Description
The heroic mount of a British Fleet Air Arm Victoria Cross recipient. This highly detailed 1:48 scale diecast model by Hobby Master (HA8204) replicates the Goodyear-built Vought FG-1D Corsair "White 115" (X), flown by Lieutenant Robert Hampton "Hammy" Gray, a Canadian Naval Officer serving with No.1841 Naval Air Squadron aboard the aircraft carrier HMS Formidable in August 1945. Operating with the British Pacific Fleet during the final days of World War II, Lt. Gray led a daring low-level strike against Japanese shipping in Onagawa Bay on August 9, 1945. Despite his Corsair being critically hit and bursting into flames, Gray resolutely pressed home his attack, scoring a direct hit that sank an enemy destroyer escort seconds before his aircraft crashed. For his ultimate bravery and self-sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross—the final Canadian VC recipient of the war.
Ideal for curators of Commonwealth military aviation and British Pacific Fleet history, this Air Power Series release serves as a definitive historical artifact of an extraordinary act of valor. The large 1:48 scale model is engineered for exceptional accuracy, featuring a deep Gloss Sea Blue finish with late-war British Pacific Fleet roundels, a detailed cockpit with an opening canopy, optional landing gear positions, and positional folding wings for flight or carrier deck display. This premium diecast metal model offers a sophisticated display presence for collectors prioritizing provenance and heroic pilot histories, making it a premier acquisition for any gallery dedicated to pioneer aerospace engineering and the Fleet Air Arm legacy.
