Description

A highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast representation of a United States Air Force McDonnell Douglas F-4G Wild Weasel operated by the 563rd Tactical Fighter Squadron during the 1980s. Released as part of the Hobby Master Air Power Series, HA1981 depicts aircraft 69-7582 of the 37th Tactical Fighter Wing while based at George Air Force Base in California.

The F-4G Wild Weasel was developed to locate, identify and suppress hostile radar-guided air defence systems. Operating in some of the most heavily defended airspace encountered by the United States Air Force, Wild Weasel crews were tasked with detecting enemy radar emissions and attacking surface-to-air missile sites before they could threaten accompanying strike aircraft.

Aircraft 69-7582 was originally manufactured as an F-4E before being converted to the specialised F-4G configuration. During the early to mid-1980s it served with the 563rd Tactical Fighter Squadron and 37th Tactical Fighter Wing at George Air Force Base, one of the principal centres for USAF Wild Weasel operations and training.

The model recreates the aircraft in its distinctive Southeast Asia-style camouflage, combining dark green, tan and lighter green upper surfaces with a contrasting underside. Prominent USAF national markings, individual aircraft numbers and unit insignia are reproduced across the airframe, together with the specialised external stores associated with the suppression of enemy air defence role.

Developed from the successful F-4E Phantom II, the F-4G replaced the fighter's internal cannon with advanced radar detection and electronic warfare equipment. Its two-person crew consisted of a pilot and an Electronic Warfare Officer, who worked together to identify radar threats and direct anti-radiation missiles against hostile emitters.

This Hobby Master release is particularly appealing to collectors of Cold War aviation, electronic warfare aircraft and United States Air Force Phantoms. The model features extensive diecast construction, detailed front and rear cockpits beneath separately positionable canopies, removable external stores and accurately reproduced Wild Weasel equipment. It is supplied with its original Hobby Master presentation display stand.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
