Description
A striking and highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast representation of a United States Marine Corps McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II carrying a distinctive American Bicentennial colour scheme. Released as part of the Hobby Master Air Power Series, HA1924 depicts an aircraft of VMFA-451 “Warlords” while assigned to USS Forrestal during 1976.
Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 451 became VMFA-451 in February 1968 following its transition to the F-4J Phantom II. The squadron had adopted the name “Warlords” during the 1950s and developed a long association with carrier-based fighter operations, combining air defence, interception and strike capabilities.
During 1976, VMFA-451 spent time aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal and was scheduled to participate in another Mediterranean deployment. In preparation, its F-4Js received special United States Bicentennial markings, including prominent red, white and blue decoration and the “AA” tail code associated with Carrier Air Wing Seventeen.
The planned Mediterranean cruise was ultimately cancelled, making the aircraft's elaborate commemorative appearance an especially interesting subject. The model recreates the scheme with a blue nose, star-spangled tail artwork, blue and white trim around the cockpit and fuselage, large MARINES lettering and authentic squadron markings.
Developed as a fleet defence fighter for the United States Navy, the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II first flew in 1958. Its powerful twin-engine configuration, two-seat cockpit and extensive weapons capability allowed it to serve as an interceptor, fighter-bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. The Phantom was subsequently operated extensively by the United States Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force, as well as numerous international air arms.
This Hobby Master release is particularly appealing to collectors of United States Marine Corps aviation, carrier aircraft and commemorative military schemes. The model features extensive diecast construction, detailed front and rear cockpits beneath separately positionable canopies, raised carrier-style wingtips and a comprehensive selection of removable external stores. Additional detailing includes authentic VMFA-451 markings, Carrier Air Wing Seventeen tail codes and the original Hobby Master presentation display stand.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
