Description
An authentic 1:72 scale replication of a sleek fourth-generation delta-wing fighter deployed during Gulf War operations. This diecast model by Hobby Master (HA1602) represents the Dassault Mirage 2000C (coded 5-OP / 74) serving with the French Air Force (Armée de l'Air) fighter wing EC 2/5 "Ile de France". Having received their first Mirage 2000Cs in 1989, the squadron based themselves at Al Ahsa in Saudi Arabia during the 1991 Gulf War as part of Operation Daguet (French for Brocket Deer). France's combat participation tasked them with protecting the left flank as Coalition Forces advanced into Kuwait to drive Iraqi invaders out of the country. Following the conclusion of Desert Storm, this aircraft continued its regional deployment, relocating to Dhahran in September 1992 for Operation "Alysse" in south-west Iraq and later joining "Southern Watch" to help enforce the southern no-fly zone. First flown on March 10, 1978, as a single-seat, all-weather interceptor based on the earlier Mirage III, the lightweight Mirage 2000C platform features a single engine with dual intakes, high firing rate 30mm guns, and the capability to deploy a wide range of air-to-surface weapons including laser-guided bombs.
Built under Hobby Master's Air Power Series, this 1:72 scale model features crisp panel lines and clean construction using only the smallest amount of plastic components. The sleek airframe is designed with side-mounted engine intakes incorporating plastic fixed inlet cones for enhanced structural accuracy, alongside a large nose-mounted refueling probe.
