Description

A highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast representation of a Grumman F6F Hellcat operated by Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm No. 804 Naval Air Squadron during 1945. Released as part of the Hobby Master Air Power Series, HA1102 depicts a British-operated Hellcat carrying the tactical markings “K-6K”.

No. 804 Naval Air Squadron converted to the Hellcat after earlier service with other Fleet Air Arm fighter types. Its crews undertook carrier-based fighter, escort and strike-support duties as Royal Navy aviation operations expanded into European and Far Eastern theatres.

The squadron participated in operations against the German battleship Tirpitz before later contributing to the Allied campaign in north-western Europe. During 1944 and 1945, elements of the unit also operated from Royal Navy carriers supporting actions across the Indian Ocean and Far East.

The model recreates the aircraft in a muted Fleet Air Arm camouflage scheme with British national markings and broad white theatre identification bands across the wings and rear fuselage. The individual code “K-6K” is displayed prominently along the fuselage.

Developed as a more powerful successor to the Grumman F4F Wildcat, the F6F Hellcat first flew in 1942. Its robust construction, powerful radial engine, heavy armament and forgiving carrier-handling characteristics made it one of the most successful naval fighters of the Second World War.

This Hobby Master release features extensive diecast construction, a detailed cockpit beneath a removable or positionable canopy and a rotating propeller. Additional details include removable external fuel tanks and stores, accurately reproduced landing gear, authentic Fleet Air Arm markings and the original Hobby Master presentation display stand.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.

For a full breakdown on how we grade models, please refer to our Condition Grading page.
