An imposing and highly detailed 1:48 scale diecast representation of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-4 associated with German fighter pilot Fritz Losigkeit, commander of I./Jagdgeschwader 1 during operations from the Netherlands in 1943. Released within the Franklin Mint Armour Collection under model code B11B586, also catalogued as reference 98163, this substantial collector model recreates Losigkeit's distinctive command aircraft with its prominent black double-chevron markings.
Fritz Losigkeit was an experienced fighter pilot whose military flying career began before the Second World War. After operational service during the early years of the conflict, he was given responsibility for forming and leading a new fighter Gruppe which subsequently became I./JG 1.
During 1943, I./JG 1 formed part of the Luftwaffe fighter force responsible for defending the Netherlands and north-western Germany. The increasing presence of Allied reconnaissance aircraft and heavy bomber formations placed growing demands on the unit, with its Focke-Wulf Fw 190s regularly called upon to intercept aircraft approaching occupied Europe and Germany.
Losigkeit's aircraft is associated with Deelen in the Netherlands during the spring of 1943.
