Description

A compact and collectable 1:147 scale diecast representation of the Lockheed P-38J Lightning “Little Eva”, an aircraft associated with the USAAF 475th Fighter Group during the Pacific War. Released as part of Corgi's Fighter Scramble Showcase Collection, CS90021 recreates the distinctive twin-boom fighter in its polished natural-metal combat finish.

“Little Eva”, serial 44-25880, carried aircraft number 170 and served with the 433rd Fighter Squadron of the 475th Fighter Group. The aircraft was associated with several pilots during its operational career, including Captain James M. Palmer, Major Warren R. Lewis and Lieutenant Calvin C. Wire.

The model carries a natural-metal silver finish with USAAF star-and-bar insignia, contrasting blue markings across the tail surfaces and the aircraft number 170. The “Little Eva” name and accompanying nose artwork are reproduced on the forward fuselage.

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was designed as a high-performance interceptor and first flew in 1939. Its twin-boom airframe, central pilot nacelle, contra-rotating propellers and tricycle undercarriage created one of the most recognisable fighter aircraft configurations of the Second World War.

The P-38's long range made it particularly valuable in the Pacific, where aircraft frequently operated across enormous distances. Its cannon and machine guns were concentrated in the nose, providing accurate forward fire without the convergence limitations associated with wing-mounted armament.

This Corgi Showcase release combines diecast metal construction with detailed plastic components, realistic panel lines and permanent pad-printed markings. It is supplied with a poseable display stand and descriptive collector information card.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
