Description

A compact and collectable 1:120 scale diecast representation of a Mitsubishi A6M Zero-Sen fighter taking part in the Imperial Japanese Navy attack on Pearl Harbor on 7th December 1941. Released as part of Corgi's Fighter Scramble Showcase Collection, CS90018 recreates one of the most recognisable Japanese naval aircraft of the Second World War.

The attack on Pearl Harbor was launched from six Japanese aircraft carriers and involved fighters, dive bombers and torpedo aircraft operating in two major waves. The Zero fighters were used to provide air cover, attack American aircraft and strafe military installations across Oahu.

The model is finished in the pale grey-green colour associated with early Japanese carrier fighters. Large red Hinomaru national markings are applied across the wings and fuselage, while the dark engine cowling and red tail identification markings provide contrasting detail.

Contemporary catalogue records describe CS90018 as an A6M3 Zero-Sen. However, the Zero fighters involved in the Pearl Harbor operation were A6M2 Model 21 aircraft. The broader Mitsubishi A6M Zero-Sen identification is therefore used in this listing to avoid presenting the catalogue variant label as definitive.

The Mitsubishi Zero combined exceptionally light construction with long range and outstanding low-speed manoeuvrability. These qualities helped it achieve a formidable reputation during the opening stages of the Pacific War, although the limited protection provided for the pilot and fuel system became increasingly serious weaknesses as Allied tactics and aircraft improved.

This Corgi Showcase model combines diecast metal construction with detailed plastic components, permanent pad-printed markings and realistic surface detailing. It is supplied with a poseable display stand and descriptive collector information card.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
