Description
A foundational pillar of early post-war jet tactical aviation. This highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast model by Corgi (AA37303) replicates the de Havilland Vampire FB.Mk 5 (VV625 / S), operating with No.112 Squadron of the 2nd Tactical Air Force (2 TAF) at RAF Fassberg in West Germany during October 1951. Having reformed in May 1951 to bolster frontline fighter-bomber presence during the onset of the Cold War, No.112 Squadron utilized these first-generation jet fighters to guard NATO's European borders. The twin-boom aircraft features the squadron's historic "Egyptian cat" motif, cleanly applied on a white disc upon the vertical stabilizers, highlighting a legendary unit heraldry that flew the Vampire across Germany before transitioning to Canadair Sabres in 1954.
Ideal for curators of Cold War jet heritage and early Royal Air Force service history, this Aviation Archive Collector Series release serves as a definitive historical artifact. The 1:72 scale model is engineered with premium precision, featuring exceptionally fine recessed panel lines across the main fuselage, veined and individually painted turbojet air intakes, and a separately applied exhaust nozzle detailing at the rear. The ventral fuselage is accurately molded with four cannon ports and associated shell-casing ejection ports located directly beneath the nose. Complete with custom-engineered plastic tail booms and elevators to ensure an optimal center of gravity for proper landing gear weight distribution, this premium model stands majestically on its included custom metal presentation stand.
