Description
A magnificent, highly exclusive 1:72 scale diecast tribute commemorating the legendary "Last Flying Mossie" of the British airshow circuit. This premium model from Corgi’s Aviation Archive Collector Series (AA32811) was commissioned as a special Corgi Heritage Centre Exclusive, precisely replicating the de Havilland Mosquito T.MkIII dual-control trainer (Serial RR299 / Civil Registration G-ASKH) operated by British Aerospace. Originally constructed at Leavesden in 1945 as an unarmed trainer, this historic airframe served in the Middle East until 1949 before returning to the UK for various Royal Air Force assignments. Acquired by Hawker Siddeley Aviation (later British Aerospace) in 1963, the twin-engine masterpiece was meticulously maintained in pristine flying condition for over three decades. Adorned in its classic wartime camouflage livery with "HT-E" squadron markings, RR299 delighted millions of aviation enthusiasts across Europe, famously remaining the absolute last airworthy Mosquito in the world until its tragic loss at the Barton Airshow on July 21, 1996. It stands as an enduring symbol of the revolutionary, all-wood "Wooden Wonder" that originally debuted in 1941 as the fastest operational propeller aircraft on the planet.
Highly coveted by elite military collectors for its deep historical significance and rare exclusive release status, this 1:72 scale replica perfectly preserves the clean, sleek contours of the celebrated multi-role platform. Built with a heavy diecast metal fuselage and wing assembly, the model features a large, clear "greenhouse" cockpit canopy that grants an unobstructed view into the trainer's signature side-by-side dual control layout and enclosed crew figures. The twin Rolls-Royce Merlin engine nacelles are fitted with high-fidelity three-bladed propellers that spin freely. For flexible presentation options, the model's air and oil coolant radiator ducts can be set in open or closed configurations, while the rugged main landing gear can be fully assembled for a stationary ground display or tucked away for a dynamic in-flight profile.
