This 1:72 diecast model of the de Havilland Mosquito PR.I ‘W4051’ represents the earliest operational photo-reconnaissance variant of one of WWII’s most versatile aircraft. The prototype for this version first flew on June 10, 1941, and retained many features of the bomber variant, including the glass nose and bomb bay doors. However, it was fitted with five camera ports for high-altitude reconnaissance missions—initially using steel mounts that were later replaced with wooden ones to reduce vibration and improve image clarity.
The Mosquito PR.I entered RAF service with No. 1 Photo-Reconnaissance Unit at RAF Benson, with aircraft ‘W4051’ delivered by Geoffrey de Havilland Jr. himself on July 13, 1941. These fast, unarmed aircraft would go on to play a vital role in intelligence gathering throughout the war.
This model comes prebuilt and includes display accessories and a stand, perfect for collectors of early reconnaissance aircraft and RAF Mosquito variants.
