This 1:72 diecast model of English Electric Canberra B.2 WH911 represents Britain’s first operational jet bomber and one of the most important post-war aircraft of the Royal Air Force. Making its maiden flight on 13 May 1949, the Canberra was powered by twin Avon turbojets and quickly gained a reputation for high performance, setting multiple speed and altitude records. The first B.2 was delivered to the RAF in 1951, and by the end of production, 1,352 Canberras had been built worldwide—including under licence in Australia and the United States (as the Martin B-57).
WH911 was initially delivered to No. 35 Squadron RAF in March 1953 and later served with No. 98 Squadron from 1964, where it performed electronic countermeasures and radar calibration work as part of RAF Signals Command, later known as No. 90 (Signals) Group. This aircraft featured the Cerberus tail insignia, symbolising defence from both front and rear—a legacy dating back to the squadron’s WWI heritage. After No. 98 Squadron disbanded in 1976, WH911 was stored at RAF St. Athan until being broken up in 1983. Its nose section was briefly preserved by the Wales Aviation Museum and later a private collector, but it has since been scrapped.
This model comes prebuilt and includes display accessories and a stand, making it a valuable addition for collectors of Cold War British aviation and RAF bomber history.
Length - 11"
Width - 11.25"
The model is sealed within the box and as new.
The box is in good condition but it does have a tear to the side and some general wear.
