Hermann Göring, later infamous in WWII, began his military career in the Prussian Army before joining the Air Force in 1915 as an observer. After training as a pilot, he achieved 22 victories in WWI, becoming one of Germany’s top aces. In July 1918, he took command of JG1, formerly led by the Red Baron. Göring’s white Fokker D.VIIF featured a cockpit modification to accommodate his arthritis.
