Description
An authentic 1:72 scale heavy fighter replica commemorating a formidable twin-engined adversary. This diecast model by Corgi (AA38501) replicates the Messerschmitt Bf 110C heavy fighter, known to the Luftwaffe as a Zerstörer. First flown on May 12, 1936, to fulfill a requirement for a long-range, multipurpose fighter, the Bf 110 leveraged its high speed, loiter capabilities, and concentrated forward firepower to support bombing raids deep into enemy territory. During the 1940 Battle of Britain, the platform faced heavy losses due to a distinct lack of maneuverability against agile RAF defenders, leading to its eventual transition into a highly successful radar-equipped night fighter. This specific "shark mouthed" early-war "C" variant replicates the personal mount of Oberleutnant Hans-Joachim Jabs, one of the Luftwaffe's most successful Zerstörer pilots with 50 confirmed kills, flying with ZG 76 in France during the high-stakes "Adler Tag" (Eagle Day) on August 13, 1940.
Part of the Aviation Archive Collector Series, this premium 1:72 scale model features robust diecast construction. The airframe is engineered with a large birdcage canopy that highlights a detailed bullet-proof front windscreen profile and offers a clear view of the interior crew figures. The nose assembly features four machine guns mounted closely together with twin cannon ports located directly below. The solid metal wing structures are detailed with a separately applied transparent landing light lens, a wing vent, and an array of delicate under-wing aileron counterweights. Complete with a multi-piece landing gear subassembly designed for quick and easy installation for realistic ground display, this limited-edition collectible delivers a premier gallery presence.
