Description

A particularly striking 1:72 scale diecast representation of Junkers Ju 52/3m RJ+NP, associated with a Luftwaffe C-Schulen multi-engine flying school and pressed into operational service on the Eastern Front during December 1941. Released as part of the Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series, AA36904 is distinguished by its extensive temporary winter camouflage and was produced as a limited edition of only 1,660 pieces worldwide.

Corgi catalogues the aircraft with the C-Schulen multi-engine training organisation at Thorn. During the opening winter of the campaign against the Soviet Union, the enormous demands placed upon Luftwaffe transport units resulted in aircraft and crews normally assigned to training and secondary duties being called upon to support frontline operations.

The model carries the identification RJ+NP and is presented in an eye-catching winter scheme, with irregular white temporary camouflage applied over the underlying darker finish. The prominent German national markings remain visible across the wings and fuselage, while yellow theatre identification markings add further contrast to the aircraft.

The Junkers Ju 52 became one of the most important transport aircraft operated by Germany during the Second World War. Its distinctive corrugated metal skin, fixed undercarriage and three-engine configuration gave the aircraft an unmistakable appearance and contributed to the famous nickname “Tante Ju”.

Originally developed as a commercial transport, the Ju 52/3m was adapted for an extraordinary variety of military duties. It transported troops, supplies and equipment, evacuated casualties, carried paratroopers and was also employed in specialised roles including minesweeping and bomber operations.

The type played a particularly important role during operations on the Eastern Front, where immense distances, poor roads and rapidly changing front lines created a constant requirement for air transport. The extreme winter conditions of late 1941 placed both aircraft and crews under considerable strain.

Corgi's large 1:72 Ju 52 tooling gives this model considerable display presence. The characteristic corrugated surface structure is recreated across the fuselage and wings, accompanied by three detailed radial engines, propellers, cockpit glazing and gun positions.

The military version also features a rotating dorsal gunner position with a pivoting machine gun, detailed waist positions and extensive surface detailing. A substantial metal presentation stand is supplied to support this particularly large and heavy Aviation Archive model.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
