Description

A spectacular 1:72 scale diecast model replicating an elite front-line fighter heritage tribute scheme. This premium model by Corgi (AA36407) replicates the Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 / F.Mk 2 (ZK349) attached to No.29(R) Squadron, operating out of RAF Coningsby, England, during the summer of 2015. To mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, the Royal Air Force presented this modern multirole jet in the historic paint scheme of Flight Lieutenant Eric James Brindley Nicolson's 249 Squadron Hawker Hurricane Mk.I GN-A (P3576). Nicolson was notably the only Fighter Command pilot to be awarded the Victoria Cross during the Battle of Britain following his actions on August 16, 1940, over Southampton, where he successfully destroyed a Luftwaffe Bf 110 despite his own aircraft being on fire. This commemorative Typhoon was scheduled to execute a unique "synchro pair" routine alongside a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire across the 2015 UK air show season.

Featured within the Aviation Archive Collector Series, this 1:72 scale delta wing model is constructed with a minimal use of plastic parts, ensuring a surprisingly heavy and solid feel. First flown on March 27, 1994, as a cooperative project between Germany, Italy, and the UK, the Eurofighter is an intentionally aerodynamically unstable combat aircraft managed by a computerized fly-by-wire system to achieve premier agility in air-to-air, air-to-ground, and reconnaissance roles. Key engineering features on this model include functional canards located ahead of the contoured wing that rotate in unison, and a dorsal speed brake that easily deploys and securely locks into place. The large canopy offers a clear view of the interior cockpit and crew figures, while the lower structure showcases beautifully reproduced anti-radar signature engine intakes and detailed engine afterburner features inside the exhaust nozzles.
