Description
A spectacular monument to an elite Luftwaffe ace defending the skies during the D-Day landings. This highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast model by Corgi (AA34315) replicates the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A flown by the legendary ace Major Kurt Buhligen, Kommodore of Jagdgeschwader 2 (JG 2) "Richthofen," while operating out of Creil, France, in June 1944. Buhligen rose from a Luftwaffe mechanic to one of Germany's most formidable tactical pilots. While intercepting Allied air forces supporting the historic Normandy landings, he achieved his monumental 100th aerial victory on June 7, 1944, behind the controls of his Fw 190. Surviving relentless combat across the Battle of Britain, North Africa, and the Western Front, Buhligen completed the war with an astonishing 112 confirmed victories. This release perfectly captures his command fighter's distinctive double-chevron fuselage markings, contrasting brilliantly with the aircraft's classic green-and-grey splinter camouflage finish and a white spinner spiral.
Ideal for curators of Western Front air operations and D-Day historical aviation collections, this Aviation Archive Collector Series release serves as a definitive historical artifact. The 1:72 scale model is engineered with exceptional precision, featuring a solid metal tail and wings paired with simulated fabric-stretched control surfaces. A standout engineering highlight is the functional 12-bladed cooling fan inside the engine cowl that spins in unison with the main propeller. Complete with configurable landing gear subassemblies, accurate inner wing details and cannon barrels visible within the wheel wells, and spent shell casing vents, this premium model delivers a commanding presence on its included custom metal display stand.
