Description

A short-lived and legendary Defense of the Reich interceptor scheme. This highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast model by Corgi (AA34313) replicates the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A "White 4" operating with the Luftwaffe's 1. Staffel, Jagdgeschwader 1 (1./JG 1) out of Schiphol, Holland, in June 1943. Known famously as the "Schachbrettmuster" (checkerboard) marking, this striking scheme first appeared in the early summer of 1943 to visually identify I./JG 1's aircraft during high-stakes air battles over Western Europe. While 1./JG 1 opted for the bold black-and-white checkers replicated here, the markings lasted only a few months. Ironically, the design caused severe confusion in the air, leading other Jagdwaffe fighters to mistake them for similarly marked P-47 Thunderbolts of the USAAF's Eighth Air Force. This release immortalizes one of the most distinctive camouflage eras of the "Butcher Bird."

Ideal for curators of Western Front air operations and WWII Luftwaffe heritage, this Aviation Archive Collector Series release serves as a definitive historical artifact. The 1:72 scale model is engineered with exceptional precision, featuring a solid metal tail and wings paired with simulated fabric-stretched control surfaces. A standout engineering highlight is the functional 12-bladed cooling fan inside the engine cowl that spins in unison with the main propeller. Complete with configurable landing gear subassemblies, accurate inner wing details and cannon barrels visible within the wheel wells, and spent shell casing vents, this premium model delivers a commanding presence on a custom metal display stand.
