Description

A substantial and highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast representation of a Luftwaffe Heinkel He 111H-6 deployed to Finland during the intense fighting of summer 1944. Released as part of the Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series, AA33702 represents aircraft 7A+FA associated with Gefechtsverband Kuhlmey while operating from Immola airfield.

Gefechtsverband Kuhlmey was a temporary German combat formation assembled from elements of several Luftwaffe units and named after its commander, Oberst Kurt Kuhlmey. It was deployed to Finland during June 1944 to support Finnish forces facing a major Soviet offensive on the Karelian Front.

The formation became particularly associated with its intensive use of Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighters and Junkers Ju 87 dive bombers. Although the Heinkel He 111 played a less prominent role, aircraft of the type provided valuable transport, support and operational capability during the deployment.

This He 111H-6 was based at Immola during July 1944 and carried the coding associated with Stab LLG 2, the unit to which the aircraft had previously been attached. The model recreates its pale upper surfaces with irregular green mottling, contrasting yellow theatre markings and black and white German national insignia.

Designed during the 1930s, the Heinkel He 111 became one of the Luftwaffe's principal medium bombers during the early years of the Second World War. Its distinctive glazed nose, twin-engine configuration and broad elliptical wings made it one of the most recognisable German aircraft of the period.

The H-6 variant could be employed as a conventional bomber, transport aircraft or torpedo carrier. Its adaptable design allowed the He 111 to remain in widespread service even as increasingly capable Allied fighters made daylight bomber operations more hazardous.

Collectors should note that AA33702 is particularly well known for camouflage scuffing along the upper surfaces and leading edges of the wings. This was caused by contact with the original plastic clamshell packaging and may therefore be present even on examples which have remained unused or sealed. It was not applied as intentional weathering.

Limited to 3,600 pieces worldwide, this large model features extensive diecast construction, a highly glazed forward crew compartment, detailed defensive gun positions, twin rotating propellers, opening bomb-bay doors, removable landing gear and the original Corgi Aviation Archive presentation stand.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
