Description

A masterpiece in 1:72 scale diecast, celebrating an exceptional WWII "Wooden Wonder" flown by a legendary cross-border partnership. This premium model from Corgi's Aviation Archive Collector Series (AA32821) replicates the de Havilland Mosquito FB.Mk VI (Serial HJ719) as flown by American pilot James Forrest "Lou" Luma and his Canadian navigator Colin Finlayson of RCAF No.418 Squadron in January 1944. Initially joining the Royal Canadian Air Force before being re-assigned to the USAAF, Luma stayed with the RCAF to preserve his highly successful night-intruder combat partnership with Finlayson. Their aircraft was highly unusual for Royal Air Force fighters of the era, sporting provocative nose art named "Moonbeam McSwine"—a pipe-smoking, gun-toting hillbilly character from the popular "Li'l Abner" comic strip. On the night of January 21st/22nd, 1944, the duo secured a legendary victory near Wunstorf, Germany, when they hunted down a Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Me 410 nightfighter that had carelessly forgotten to turn off its lights after taking off for a second sortie. Developed as a private venture, the de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito revolutionized military aviation as a high-altitude, high-speed, all-wood aircraft powered by twin Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, matching fighter speeds while delivering the payload capacity of a medium bomber.

Highly prized by military aviation collectors for its historic authenticity, this 1:72 scale replica perfectly captures the clean lines and versatility of the celebrated fighter-bomber platform. The airframe features a large, transparent "birdcage" canopy that allows for easy, detailed viewing of the interior cockpit space and enclosed crew figures. For highly adaptable showcase configurations, the air and oil coolant radiator ducts can be quickly set to either an open or closed position, while the modular landing gear units seamlessly install and lock securely in place for a grounded display stance. Mirroring the aggressive real-world tactical layout of the FB.Mk VI variant, the nose features four precisely rendered machine gun barrels paired with four 20mm cannon ports situated directly beneath the forward fuselage assembly.
