Description
A highly collectable 1:72 scale Electronic Edition of Avro Lancaster B.Mk I L7571, coded OF-X, operated by RAF No.97 Squadron during the unit's early Lancaster operations from RAF Woodhall Spa in 1942. Released as Corgi Aviation Archive AA32611, this substantial limited-edition model is accompanied by the special interactive “Bombing Mission” display base incorporating synchronised lighting and sound effects.
No.97 Squadron began converting to the Avro Lancaster during the opening months of 1942 and moved from RAF Coningsby to the newly opened RAF Woodhall Spa in March. The unit therefore became one of the early operational Lancaster squadrons at a time when the new four-engined bomber was only beginning to establish its formidable reputation.
L7571 carried the squadron identification OF-X during its service with No.97 Squadron. Corgi presents the aircraft in the classic early Bomber Command appearance, with dark earth and dark green upper camouflage, black night undersides, RAF roundels and the prominent OF-X squadron codes.
L7571 subsequently left No.97 Squadron and served with No.61 Squadron as QR-S. The aircraft was later loaned to No.207 Squadron and was lost during a raid against Essen on the night of 16th/17th September 1942, giving this model a direct connection with one of the earliest generations of operational Lancasters.
The Avro Lancaster developed from the less successful twin-engined Manchester and first flew in January 1941. The adoption of four Rolls-Royce Merlin engines transformed the design, creating an aircraft with excellent range, load-carrying ability and adaptability.
The Lancaster became the principal heavy bomber of RAF Bomber Command and eventually undertook more than 150,000 operational sorties. Its large bomb bay allowed the type to carry conventional bomb loads as well as specialised weapons developed for some of the most famous RAF operations of the war.
AA32611 differs from a standard Aviation Archive Lancaster through its interactive electronic presentation base. The base depicts a silhouetted wartime landscape and incorporates illuminated searchlights together with red bomb and flak effects to recreate the atmosphere of a Bomber Command mission.
The electronic system is accompanied by a selection of atmospheric sound effects including aircraft engines, air-raid sirens, anti-aircraft fire and bomb explosions. This makes the release particularly unusual among Corgi's large 1:72 heavy-bomber models.
Limited to 2,010 pieces worldwide, the Lancaster itself incorporates extensive diecast construction, detailed crew positions, four rotating propellers, finely reproduced defensive turrets and photo-etched detailing. Combined with the specialised electronic display base, AA32611 is one of the more elaborate Lancaster releases produced within the Aviation Archive range.

Grading Criteria
Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.
Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.
Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.
Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.
If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
