Description

A highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast representation of North American P-51D Mustang 44-14151 “Petie 2nd”, flown by American fighter ace John Meyer during 1944. Released as part of the Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series, AA32204 depicts the aircraft while serving with the USAAF 487th Fighter Squadron, 352nd Fighter Group, at RAF Bodney in England.

The 352nd Fighter Group became one of the best-known United States Army Air Forces units operating from Britain. Its aircraft developed a distinctive appearance through their brightly painted noses, earning the unit the enduring nickname “The Blue-Nosed Bastards of Bodney”.

John Meyer achieved fighter ace status while serving with the group and became one of its leading pilots. He flew several Mustangs carrying the “Petie” name and accumulated victories during escort, fighter sweep and ground-attack missions over occupied Europe.

Aircraft 44-14151 carried the name “Petie 2nd” and is reproduced in a natural-metal finish with a vivid blue nose and propeller spinner. Black identification markings, USAAF star-and-bar insignia and the individual aircraft codes provide a distinctive contrast against the polished metal airframe.

Developed to meet a requirement for a long-range fighter, the North American P-51 Mustang first flew in 1940. When paired with the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the P-51D gained the range and high-altitude performance needed to escort Allied bombers deep into Germany.

The P-51D incorporated a bubble canopy that significantly improved the pilot's visibility. Its combination of speed, range, manoeuvrability and heavy machine-gun armament made it one of the most effective fighter aircraft of the Second World War.

This Corgi release features diecast construction, a detailed cockpit beneath the large bubble canopy and a rotating four-bladed propeller. Additional features include removable landing gear, underwing stores, authentic Petie 2nd markings and the original Corgi Aviation Archive presentation stand.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.
