Description
A distinctive and highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast representation of a Hawker Hurricane Mk II operated by Royal Air Force No. 258 Squadron in Ceylon during 1943. Released as part of the Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series, AA32006 depicts aircraft BD701 carrying the squadron code “ZT-M”.
No. 258 Squadron was reformed during 1940 and initially operated from bases in Britain. Following the outbreak of war in the Far East, the unit was deployed overseas as Allied forces attempted to strengthen air defences across Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean region.
The squadron was diverted to Singapore but later withdrew as Japanese forces advanced through the region. It subsequently operated from Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, where its Hurricanes contributed to fighter defence and patrol duties during a period of continued concern over Japanese air and naval activity.
Aircraft BD701 is reproduced in a distinctive tropical camouflage scheme combining sand and dark green upper surfaces with lighter undersides. RAF roundels, the white ZT-M squadron codes and a bright red propeller spinner complete its operational appearance.
Designed by Sydney Camm, the Hawker Hurricane first flew in 1935 and became one of the Royal Air Force's most important fighters during the opening years of the Second World War. Its robust construction, stable handling and adaptability allowed it to serve as a fighter, fighter-bomber, night fighter and ground-attack aircraft.
The Hurricane Mk II incorporated a more powerful Merlin engine and was produced in several armament configurations. Although gradually replaced in frontline fighter duties by newer aircraft, the Hurricane continued to perform valuable work in overseas theatres throughout the war.
Limited to 2,300 pieces worldwide, this Corgi release features diecast construction, simulated fabric-covered surfaces and a detailed cockpit beneath a clear canopy. Further features include a rotating propeller, removable landing gear, authentic tropical camouflage and the original Corgi Aviation Archive presentation stand.

- Despite the noted imperfections, the model still displays very well.
