Description

A distinguished limited-edition 1:144 scale diecast representation of Lockheed VC-121A Constellation 48-614 “Columbine”, used by General Dwight D. Eisenhower during his service as Supreme Allied Commander Europe. Released as part of the Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series, AA30402 depicts the aircraft as it appeared from 1950.

General Eisenhower used this specially configured Constellation between 1950 and 1952 while serving as NATO's first Supreme Allied Commander Europe. The aircraft provided long-range transportation between military headquarters, diplomatic engagements and Allied nations across Europe.

The name “Columbine” referred to the state flower of Colorado, the home state of Eisenhower's wife Mamie. This aircraft was the first of three Eisenhower-associated Constellations to carry the name and should not be confused with the later presidential aircraft Columbine II and Columbine III.

Aircraft 48-614 had originally been delivered to the United States Air Force as a C-121A before being converted for VIP transport duties. It carried polished natural-metal surfaces, a white upper fuselage, United States Air Force titles and prominent national insignia.

The Lockheed Constellation's pressurised cabin, long range and relatively high cruising speed made it particularly suitable for transporting senior commanders and government officials. Its triple tail and curved fuselage also gave it an appearance unlike any contemporary military transport.

Limited to 5,000 pieces worldwide, this Corgi release features extensive diecast construction, authentic Columbine markings, four rotating propellers, clear cockpit glazing, removable landing gear and the original Aviation Archive presentation display stand.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
