Description
A substantial and highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast representation of the Martin B-26B Marauder “Dinah Might”, which participated in the aerial operations supporting the D-Day landings. Released as part of the Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series, AA29501 depicts aircraft 41-31576 of the USAAF 553rd Bomb Squadron, 386th Bomb Group, flown by Major David Dewhurst over Normandy on 6th June 1944.
During the opening stages of Operation Overlord, aircraft of the 386th Bomb Group were tasked with attacking German defensive positions and transport infrastructure across northern France. These missions were intended to disrupt enemy movements, weaken coastal defences and support Allied troops approaching the invasion beaches.
“Dinah Might” carried an important responsibility during the early hours of D-Day, helping to lead bomber formations towards their assigned targets. Accurate navigation and timing were essential, as the aircraft needed to release its bombs while avoiding the advancing Allied troops and landing forces below.
The model recreates the aircraft in its olive drab and neutral grey wartime finish, with prominent black and white invasion stripes applied across the wings and rear fuselage. The individual aircraft name, squadron markings and serial details provide a direct connection to one of the most important military operations of the Second World War.
Designed as a fast twin-engined medium bomber, the Martin B-26 Marauder first flew in 1940. Its relatively small wings and high landing speed initially gave the aircraft a difficult reputation, but improvements in training and operational procedures transformed it into an effective and dependable bomber. The Marauder ultimately achieved one of the lowest combat loss rates of any American bomber used during the war.
Limited to 1,500 pieces worldwide, this release is particularly appealing to collectors of D-Day aircraft, USAAF bombers and historically significant individual airframes. The model features heavyweight diecast construction, a detailed glazed cockpit and nose section, twin rotating propellers, authentic invasion stripes, detailed external armament and the original Corgi Aviation Archive presentation stand.
