Description

A fiercely decorated close air support veteran from the Korean War. This highly detailed 1:72 scale diecast model by Corgi (AA27702) replicates the North American F-51D Mustang (#44-12953), named "Was that too fast?", operating with the USAF 18th Fighter Bomber Group (FBG) out of Chinhae Airfield, South Korea, in 1951. Re-designated from P-51D to F-51D in the post-WWII era, the legendary Mustang was repurposed as a highly capable long-range strike aircraft during the Korean conflict. Operating in grueling ground-attack roles, the 18th FBG's Mustangs dropped napalm and fired rockets into heavily defended positions, becoming a vital pillar of United Nations tactical support. This release beautifully features the iconic shark mouth nose art, contrasting with its sleek natural metal finish and colorful yellow tail markings.

Ideal for curators of Korean War aviation history and classic American fighter command collections, this Aviation Archive Collector Series release serves as a definitive historical artifact. The 1:72 scale model is engineered with exceptional precision, featuring a large transparent "bubble-top" canopy that allows for easy viewing of the hand-painted pilot figure and detailed cockpit. For enhanced display options, a removable engine cowling is included to reveal an intricately detailed Rolls-Royce Merlin engine replica underneath. Complete with accurate under-wing structural detail visible inside the wheel wells, realistic radiator scoops, and under-wing drop tanks, this premium model stands beautifully on its included metal presentation stand.
