Description

A collectible 1:144 scale twin-aircraft set commemorating the Royal Air Force fighter pilots and aircraft associated with the Battle of Britain era. Released as part of the Corgi Aviation Archive range, model 49507 contains a Hawker Hurricane Mk I representing Squadron Leader Robert Stanford Tuck and a Supermarine Spitfire Mk IIA associated with Wing Commander Douglas Bader.

The Hawker Hurricane represents aircraft V6555, carrying the squadron code DT-A of RAF No. 257 Squadron. Robert Stanford Tuck became one of the Royal Air Force's leading fighter pilots and commanded the squadron during the later stages of the Battle of Britain.

The accompanying Supermarine Spitfire Mk IIA represents aircraft P7966, carrying the individual marking D-B associated with Douglas Bader. Bader became one of the RAF's best-known fighter commanders and was closely associated with the development of large multi-squadron fighter formations.

Together, the two models highlight the principal single-seat fighters used by RAF Fighter Command during the opening years of the Second World War. Although the Spitfire became the more internationally recognised design, the Hurricane equipped a greater number of squadrons during the Battle of Britain and accounted for a substantial proportion of RAF victories.

Both models are reproduced in RAF dark earth and dark green camouflage with period national markings and individual squadron codes. Their compact 1:144 scale allows the two aircraft to be displayed together without requiring the space of Corgi's larger 1:72 fighter models.

Released around the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, this commemorative set is particularly appealing to collectors of early Aviation Archive releases, RAF fighter aircraft and smaller-scale multi-model displays. The set is supplied in its original presentation packaging with display stands.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
