A substantial limited-edition 1:144 scale diecast representation of Boeing Washington B.1 WF448, operated by RAF No. 115 Squadron during the early 1950s. Released as part of the Corgi Aviation Archive range, model 48902 depicts the aircraft carrying the squadron identification KD-F.
The Washington B.1 was the Royal Air Force designation applied to Boeing B-29 Superfortress bombers loaned by the United States during the early Cold War. The aircraft provided Bomber Command with a long-range heavy-bomber capability while newer British jet aircraft were being introduced.
No. 115 Squadron reformed as a Washington unit at RAF Marham during 1950. Its crews operated the large four-engine bombers on training exercises and strategic bombing duties as part of the RAF's developing post-war force.
WF448 had previously served with the United States Army Air Forces before being delivered to the RAF in July 1950. It remained on British charge until November 1953, when it was returned to the United States.
The model recreates the RAF Washington in its polished natural-metal finish with British national insignia, WF448 serial and the KD-F squadron codes. The long cylindrical fuselage, glazed nose, four radial engines and high-mounted tail reproduce the imposing profile of the B-29 design.
Limited to 2,800 pieces worldwide, this heavyweight Corgi release features extensive diecast construction, transparent cockpit and rear-gunner glazing, detailed defensive gun positions, four rotating propellers, removable landing gear and the original multi-position presentation stand.
