Description
A historically significant 1:144 scale diecast representation of Boeing B-29-45-MO Superfortress 44-86292 “Enola Gay”, flown by Colonel Paul W. Tibbets during 1945. Released as part of the early Corgi Aviation Archive range, model 48901 recreates aircraft number 82 of the USAAF 393rd Bombardment Squadron, 509th Composite Group.
The 509th Composite Group was formed as a specialist unit and deployed to North Field on Tinian in the Mariana Islands. Its modified B-29 aircraft were prepared for highly specialised missions during the final stages of the Pacific War.
On 6th August 1945, Enola Gay carried the atomic bomb “Little Boy” to Hiroshima. The attack caused catastrophic destruction and loss of life and became one of the defining and most controversial events of the Second World War and the nuclear age.
The aircraft was named by Paul Tibbets after his mother, Enola Gay Tibbets. It carried the individual aircraft number 82, natural-metal surfaces and tail markings temporarily altered for operational security.
The Boeing B-29 was one of the most technically advanced bombers of the Second World War. It featured a pressurised crew compartment, remotely controlled defensive gun turrets, long operational range and four powerful Wright radial engines.
This heavyweight Corgi release recreates the aircraft's polished natural-metal finish, Enola Gay nose name, USAAF insignia and individual identification markings. Further features include four rotating propellers, transparent cockpit glazing, removable landing gear and the original multi-position presentation stand.

- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.
Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.
Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.
Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.
